BITS PILANI VISIT

In the pursuit of sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, collaboration between industries and academic institutions plays a pivotal role. Recently, Dubatt Battery Recycling LLC had the honor of hosting senior faculty and research academicians from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) at our factory premises in Dubai Industrial City. The visit aimed to provide insights into our environmentally friendly lead acid battery recycling processes and explore avenues for fostering a sustainable circular economy for batteries.

The delegation from BITS Pilani comprised esteemed members of the academic community, including Dr. B G Prakash Kumar, Head of Chemical Engineering Department; Professor Rusal Raj; Professor Geetha; Professor Paul; and Professor Nishant. Their presence underscored the significance of academia-industry collaboration in advancing environmental education and promoting responsible industrial practices.

During the visit, our team conducted a comprehensive factory tour, showcasing the intricacies of lead acid battery recycling and highlighting our commitment to environmental sustainability. Through engaging discussions, we emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry stakeholders and technical institutes to nurture a culture of environmental consciousness and encourage active participation in real-world industrial activities.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was the mutual agreement between Dubatt and BITS Pilani to collaborate on the development of a groundbreaking initiative: a comprehensive battery recycling calculator. This innovative tool aims to quantify the positive environmental impacts of recycling each kilogram of lead acid batteries, thereby raising awareness about the benefits of recycling and promoting responsible disposal practices.

The proposed calculator will provide valuable data on various environmental aspects associated with lead acid battery recycling, including carbon reduction, global warming potential, savings on fossil energy demand, reduction in particulate matter emissions, water savings, impact on reducing summer smog, conservation of mineral resources, and the environmental benefits expressed as the equivalent number of trees planted.

BITS Pilani has committed to leveraging its academic resources to conduct a thorough study analyzing the life cycle impacts of lead acid battery recycling, encompassing collection, transportation, and processing stages. This collaborative research endeavor exemplifies the synergy between academic expertise and industry insights, driving meaningful contributions to environmental sustainability and fostering a culture of responsible resource management.

As we embark on this collaborative journey, we envision a future where academia and industry work hand in hand to address pressing environmental challenges, innovate sustainable solutions, and inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Through partnerships like the one forged between Dubatt Battery Recycling LLC and BITS Pilani, we can pave the way towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for generations to come.
